Electrogalvanized steel

Electrogalvanized steel is steel that has been coated with a layer of zinc by electrolysis. The zinc coating has excellent corrosion resistance and a uniform surface, making it a popular choice for a variety of applications. At Wanzhi Steel, we offer Electrogalvanized (EG) sheets and coils in a variety of sizes, ranging from 0.3 mm to 2 mm in thickness and 600 mm to 1,500 mm in width. What is Electro-Galvanized Steel?

Galvanized steel is steel that has been coated with zinc for protection through an electroplating process. The zinc coating is applied to cold rolled steel At low temperatures. So EG steel is also called cold-dip galvanized steel. Through electrolytic galvanizing, a uniform and dense zinc layer is eventually formed on the surface of the steel, but the mechanical properties of the material are still maintained. Electrogalvanized steel is usually sold in the form of coils or sheets. EG coil is a material that can be sheared, slit, and shaped for other uses. The weight of the coil is usually 3 tons to 8 tons. And EG sheet is a finished or semi-finished product. You can use it directly or further process it for other uses. The following are the packaging details.

The steel grade of electrogalvanized steel is composed of the base material grade, electrogalvanized (E), type and weight of the galvanized layer. Electrogalvanized products based on SPCC, SPCD, SPCE, SPCF and SPCG are named SECC, SECD, SECE, SECF and SECG respectively.

What is the electrogalvanizing process?

Electrogalvanizing is a process where a layer of zinc is electroplated on the surface of steel. This is done by passing an electric current through a solution of zinc and brine, through a zinc anode and a steel conductor. The purpose of electrogalvanizing is to protect the steel from corrosion, extend its service life, and enhance its decorative appearance. Zinc has a high resistance to oxidation in dry air and humid environments, which prevents corrosion. When the protective layer is damaged, micro-cells are formed between the zinc and the steel, ensuring that the steel substrate is protected. The full cold galvanizing process flow is:

ChemicalDegreasing→Hot water washing→Water washing→Electrolytic degreasing→Water washing→Acid washing→Rust removal→Water washing→Electrogalvanizing process→Water washing→Passivation→Hot water washing→Drying→Quality inspection→Packaging and salesElectrogalvanized steel properties

After cold galvanizing, the mechanical properties of steel will not change. While being protected by the zinc layer, it also has some great features:

1. Good processability, coating and ductility
2. Good wear resistance
3. Uniform protective coating
4. Bright and beautiful surface
5. Good corrosion resistanceApplication of electrogalvanized steel

The unique properties and exquisite appearance of electrogalvanized steel make it a popular choice in many fields such as household appliances, steel furniture, office equipment, automobiles and building materials.
1. Making wire mesh, such as galvanized chain link fence;
2. Making precision instruments, computer case shells, vehicle frames, etc.;
3. Making door frames, ceilings,Wall Panels, roof panels, etc.
4. Deep processing such as forming, stretching, drawing, bending, etc.;
5. Automobile inner panels, fuel tanks, door panels, etc.
However, you should remember that electrogalvanized products cannot withstand outdoor exposure without chemical treatment or painting.

2. Galvanizing layer thickness

Hot-dip galvanized steel is usually coated thicker than electro-galvanized steel.Hot dip galvanized steelUp to 275 g/m2 . EG steel is thinner, weighing between 10-30 g/ m2 .

3. Corrosion resistance

While both hot-dip and cold-dip galvanized steel offer some degree of corrosion resistance, hot-dip galvanized steel is generally more effective at preventing corrosion in harsh environments. This is because the thicker coating of zinc provides a greater barrier against corrosive elements.

4. Appearance Difference

The surface of hot-dip galvanized steel sheet is darker, uneven, slightly rough, and will produce bright flakes, water marks, nodules, etc., and the color is silver-gray. The zinc layer of electro-galvanized steel sheet is uniform and dense, and the surface is smooth and bright. It is silver-white and has no zinc flowers. However, the zinc layer is easy to fall off over time.
